Award-winning photographers Shirley Whitenack and Richard St. Peter will be leading a photography workshop at Dare Arts on Tuesday, August 19. If you want to make pictures instead of take pictures, this class is for you!
Learn how to fully utilize the four basic shooting modes. In addition, you will learn and practice compositional techniques to include utilizing directional light, point of focus, identifying power points, and depth of field (blurred, soft background vs. detailed, sharp background). Through lecture, demonstration, and on-location photography you will gain confidence in your photographic ability. Class wrap-up will encompass image review/critique, photo resources, and follow-up questions. Each participant will receive a binder of photography handouts to keep for future reference.
What to bring: Camera, lenses, battery charger, instruction manual, digital media, and flashdrive. A laptop (to review images) is recommended but not required.

- Avalon Fishing Pier: Photoshoot from 7:30am-9:30am
- Dare Arts Gallery classroom: Lecture and image review from 10:00 -3:30pm

Ability Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Payment must be made in advance via credit card on the Dare Arts website at DareArts.org/workshops.
Preregistration is required. There must be 5 participants signed up for class to take place. Class is limited to 10 students. Class is open to students aged high school to adult.
Instructor's Bios: Both Shirley and Richard have been photographing for over 50 years each and have earned the Fellow of Photography degree from Virginia Professional Photographers Association. Shirley is also a lifetime member of Professional Photographers of America.
Cancellation policy: Registrations cannot be transferred to future workshops. No-shows will not receive a refund. If you need to cancel for any reason, we will only refund you if we are able to fill the spot.
