The Songwriters Showcase is an event meant to highlight local artist’s original music in listening room type atmosphere. It’s 3 hours with 3 artist (maybe 4), playing 3 song sets in the round. We have some notable talent on tap, as well as, some lesser known artists, providing them with a stage and audience that they may not otherwise have experienced. Our kickoff event will feature Mark Wahl, Bryan Dickenson with Kathy Dillon and Je Stanton.
Mark Wahl is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and luthier. Mark has been around the local acoustic music scene for decades and is known by many as the director of the Ontario Center for Performing Arts (“the Oswego Music Hall”), a 200 seat noprofit venue on the shore of Lake Ontario promoting acoustic music.*
A graduate of the State University of New York College at Oswego, Mark retired from his business in design and general contracting to direct his energies to his music, the Oswego Music Hall, and his luthierie shop where he produces and repairs fine acoustic instruments.
Mark’s songs are often poignant vignettes with powerful use of metaphor and simple, compelling melodies. Mark's 2018 CD release “Circadia” was nominated for best Album in the “Americana” category of the SAMMYs (Syracuse Area Music Awards). Mark’s popular 2013 CD “Everything Returns” was recorded with his trio “Canvas Moon”.
Mark has performed with Loren Barrigar, Mark Mazengarb, Colleen Kateau, Jeff Haines, Austin MacRae, Cam Caruso, John McConnell, David Tamulevich, Larry Kyle, Gina Holsopple, JoAnne Sherwood, Denise Knight, R.J.Bracchitta, Joshua Garcia, Tim Burns, Mike Powell, Elsa Kennedy, Marc Warner, Jeff Haynes, and many upstate New York songwriters. He has opened for regional performers including Aztec Two Step, Dana Fuchs and Loren Barrigar.
Bryan Dickenson is a CNY singer/songwriter who has been playing music for 60 years and songwriting for 50. He has been featured at Oswego Music Hall's songwriter showcase 3 times and won the Indigo Productions Songwriters Series hosted by Irv Lyons. He has over 70 songs in various genres from pop to blues to country to folk. While he gigged for many years including a stint in the nineties as lead singer in the 9 piece horn band Not For Profit as well as duos and solo, he now focuses on songwriting, playing at open mics, porchfests and occasionally special events. He resides now in Syracuse where he has lived for 35 years and performs solo and with his significant other Kathy Dillon.
Jeff Stanton, started his musical career on accordion at age eight. To the relief of his family, he switched to guitar and bass after just one accordion lesson. Jeff has been writing songs since before he could drive. After four CDs, one vinyl record, and dozens of demo tapes, he still has a clean driving record. His project with the late Larry Hoyt – entitled “Best of Friends” and co-produced with Judy Stanton – was nominated for a 2015 Sammy in the Americana category.
