Octobers Deeper Groove session at The Turntable Store is excited to be hosting Matt Tarka!
Matt Tarka is a singer/songwriter based in Lancaster County, PA. After picking up a bass guitar when he was fifteen, he has since aimed to share personal and fictional stories with a guitar and voice.
Listeners to his music will sense his propensity for “alt-Americana” music, his incipient love for bands like REM and Dinosaur Jr, and his voice which has the same signature stamp of star vocalists like Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie and James Mercer from the Shins. Themes that show up in his music are embracing your mistakes (“I too need a new beginning”), questioning reality and holding people accountable (“Will people ever know how hard we tried / to survive?”), being open to change and people who offer a new perspective (“Question your surroundings / every day you can / Oh yes my friend / I believe you understand”), and how the mundane can be beautiful if you look at it right (“Staying sane on the trip to the great somehow!”).
Tarka's music has been featured in media outlets including Pennsylvania Musician, WRVV 97.3, WITF, Americana Highways, Relix, NPR's "Morning Edition," Country Fried Rock, and The Big Takeover.
