People, things, circumstances, and habits come in and out of our lives. Some leave no trace, some linger a while, some stay forever. When something takes root in our lives, on bookshelves, in desk drawers, and in our hearts, what meaning do we invest it with?

Sometimes we don’t even notice how things take on a life of their own and begin to rule our lives. We take the same commute to work, feel heartbroken over a shattered mug, get into the same fights with the same people day in and day out.
