About the event

Yiddish Revolutionaries – A Forgotten History
Join Yoyvl for a powerful and uplifting klezmer concert that brings music and history together in a unique live experience.

Through song, images, and storytelling, Yoyvl share their story of the history of the Jewish Left, aiming to provide another perspective to the discourse about the European Jewish experience. Their performance explores themes of poverty, resistance, hope, and community, weaving stories that resonate across generations and borders. The journey begins in late 19th-century Eastern Europe and travels through time to present-day Britain, weaving together traditional klezmer music with personal and historical accounts.

For this performance, Yoyvl have been given special access to the Manchester Jewish Museum archives, allowing them to incorporate local Jewish history into the show and create a deeper connection to place and community.

The concert blends live music and song, performed in Yiddish, with a projected slideshow featuring translations and evocative images, making the story accessible to all audiences, whether or not you understand Yiddish.
