Legion Family Second Vice Commander Training

In The American Legion, the Second Vice Commander typically serves as a support officer to the Post (or District/Department) leadership. Their main role is to assist the Commander and First Vice Commander in carrying out Legion programs and responsibilities.

Topics of discussion include:
• Membership & Morale: Helping recruit, retain, and engage members by creating activities and programs that encourage participation.
• Post Activities: Overseeing or coordinating social events, dinners, fundraisers, and community outreach that strengthen camaraderie and promote Legion values.
• Support Role: Stepping in when the Commander or First Vice Commander is unavailable, ensuring continuity of leadership.
• Community Engagement: Acting as a visible representative of the Legion at local functions, fostering goodwill, and building connections.

In short, the Second Vice Commander’s focus is on keeping members active and involved through programs and activities that make the Post vibrant and welcoming.
