Organised by Shuwen Wang with support from the Arts and Humanities Faculty of Manchester Metropolitan University and Floriental Ltd, this 90-minute workshop supplies all necessary tools, materials, and dried flowers.
Drawing inspiration from artworks by Ding Guanpeng (1736-1795) and Jan Bruegel the Elder (1568-1625), this workshop examines how the European motif of the Garland of Flowers evolved in Chinese Buddhist paintings during the eighteenth century. Participants will craft a dried flower garland combining European and Chinese flowers and plants. By the end of the workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of the artistic and cultural exchange history between East Asia and Europe, and have the opportunity to closely experience the craftsmanship involved in making the flower garland.
This event is free, but only 15 spots are available. Please book your ticket in advance.
