Teach in/ Teach out, part of the globally coordinated activities of the Migration Scholars’ Global Solidarity Resistance Network.

About this Event

A celebration of migrants’ contributions to the City of Manchester and beyond, a chance to ask questions and share information about current migrations in the UK. There will be live music from Intercultural Musiking and others.

Confirmed speakers:

Anandi Ramamurthy is Emeritus Professor of Media and Culture, Sheffield Hallam University. Her research has focussed on amplifying suppressed voices. Her books include Imperial persuaders: images of Africa and Asia in British advertising (MUP 2003) Black Star: Britain’s Asian Youth Movements (Pluto Press 2013) and Anti-Racist Nursing and Midwifery (Routledge 2026).

Jan Nederveen Pieterse is Suzanne and Duncan Mellichamp Chair and Distinguished Professor of Global Studies and Sociology at University of California Santa Barbara. Research interests include connectivity (Connectivity and global studies, 2021), Covid-19 (Covid-19 and Governance, co-edited 2021) and multicentric globalization (Multipolar globalization, 2018).

Tess Hartland is a Research Associate with Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group at The University of Manchester. She recently completed her PhD in Sociology which explored the experiences of older refugees and asylum seekers living in Manchester through narrative methods. Her research captured how uncertainty and insecurity shape life course trajectories and lead to opportunities for resistance.
