About the Book
Julie Masis interviewed her grandfather, Shlomo Masis, who survived the Holocaust in Ukraine and later immigrated to Massachusetts, where he lived to be 102 years old. The book talks about Jewish life in Bessarabia (Moldova) before and after the war, and about the Holocaust under Romanian occupation. There are also stories about how Ukrainians, in the village of Obodovka, helped the Jews in the ghetto.
