Perhaps the original screwball romcom!
Jack and Algernon invent fake identities so they can slip away from their everyday lives for a bit of romance and fun. Things get complicated when they both pretend to be named Ernest while courting two women.

Please prepare a short comedic monologue (one minute or less).โ British/Scottish/Irish accents encouraged.

Character descriptions:

Jack Worthing: Smart, sincere, and secretly living a double life. Pretending to be โErnestโ to escape to the city and chase love.
Algernon Moncrieff: Wild, witty, and always up for mischief. He lives for clever wordplay, cucumber sandwiches, and stirring up trouble.
Gwendolen Fairfax: Elegant, confident, delightfully dramatic. She knows what she wants: a man named Ernest.
Cecily Cardew: Sweet, imaginative, and secretly rebellious. Her diary is full of imaginary romantic adventures.
Lady Bracknell: Commanding, opinionated, intense. The ultimate authority figure. Tries to run everyoneโs life.
Miss Prism: Proper, prim, scatterbrained. She is Cecilyโs tutor, but sheโs hiding a few secrets of her own.
Rev. Chasuble: Gentle, well-meaning, awkward. The local clergyman with a soft spot for Miss Prism.
Lane and Merriman: Servants in the households of Algernon and Jack. Both solemnly watch their employers act like idiots, and sometimes save them.
