Join us for a special evening celebrating the release of “Through the Walls”, the much-anticipated debut album from Anna Lowenstein, one of the UK’s leading klezmer fiddle players.
This beautifully immersive performance draws on the melodies of Eastern European Jewish folk music, reimagined through the rich and expressive sound of a string quartet. Joyful, inventive, and deeply moving, “Through the Walls” invites you into a musical world shaped by memory, place, and community.
Anna and her quartet: Flora Curzon (violin), Meg Hamilton (viola), and Francesca Ter-Berg (cello; Fran&Flora, She’koyokh), perform with energy and warmth, recreating what Anna describes as the “sound world” of her childhood, in which the languages of Beethoven, Bartok, Shostakovich commingled with Yiddish music.
The album skillfully weaves in storytelling, interviews, and field recordings from Stamford Hill, bringing voices and lived experiences into the music. The result is an intimate portrait of a community, where the sounds you hear feel alive with people, stories, and history.
Join us for this unforgettable musical experience and be taken on a journey through the immersive sounds of the diaspora.
