About the event

Desire and repetition – playtest
Please join our playtest!

An early work in progress of the latest collaboration between us, Emma Bexell and Filip Rahim Hansson. During a couple of days at IAC we’re continuing our development of a setup that hacks the random intimacy of chatroulette, and lets participants spy on one-on-one encounters between strangers. On chatroulette platforms people seek spontaneous online connections churned out in repetitions of awkward interactions; filled with trolls, exhibitionists, or people selling something. We try to make a crack in this mirror exercise and find some new angles to the commodification of desire.

Registration: Please register by sending an e-mail to ZW1tYSB8IGJleGVsbCAhIG5ldA==.

Location: Inter Arts Center, 4th floor, Bergsgatan 29, Malmö (Black Room)

EMMA BEXELL is a multidisciplinary performance artist based in Malmö, Sweden, known for her work as artistic director and founder of theatre company Bombina Bombast. She creates works for stage, screen and other sites characterised by a curiosity for the encounter between thought and technology. In her work the politics behind our every day encounters materialise as performances, games, films, interventions or publications. She has a playfully provocative and inquisitive approach in her participatory works that often explore emerging tech and what it does with our attention, relationships and public spaces. Guest teacher at Malmö Theatre Academy, Danish National School of Performing Arts and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. Awarded with the Thalia award 2020 för the performance ”Ögonvittnen” together with Stefan Stanisic and Sara Cronberg. Presented at festivals and venues around the world such as Yale Schwarzman Center, PRAx Center Oregon, Nanluoguxiang Theatre Festival Beijing, Cannes Film Festival and Festival du Nouveau Cinéma Montréal.

FILIP RAHIM HANSSON is an artist whose work sets out to stretch the boundaries and frames of reference in our society. Central to his practice are questions surrounding perfection as something that is constituted by change and acceptance—perspectives that are guided by his studies of Dharma.

Material as well as contextual versatility are key for Rahim Hansson. Some of his work is on the playful side, some of it political, all joined under the artist's vision that art is telling us what we don't yet know. Through collaboration, his own gallery and social projects, Rahim Hansson spreads the idea that creativity has its own unique form of perfection, beyond common notions and societal conventions.
