About the event

Autumn in the Southeastern Fells, Malden
Join us to explore the southeastern part of the Fells, which displays views of the surrounding towns and stunning water features.

About this Event

Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces. Slow pace.

Appropriate for: All

Leader: Boot Boutwell

About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for nearly 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

About the walk: We will meet at Fire Gate 55, at the start of the Jerry Jingle Road trail. This is at the intersection of Fellsway East and East Border Road (Google Maps location here).

We will take a walk in the southeastern Fells searching for plants that are still in flower as well as plants that are in fruit. We’ll also look for winter weeds, those hardy herbaceous (non-woody) plants whose skeletons decorate the autumn and winter land- scape. And speaking of skeletons, we might even seen a Halloween creature or two getting ready for All Hallow’s Eve. The walk will focus on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history.

Children 10 and older welcome with a registered adult.

Parking can be found on the northbound side of Fellsway East, south of East Border Road. Please use caution when crossing the road to get to the start of the trail. The walk's starting point is also a 20-minute walk from the Oak Grove T Station on the Orange line and a 22-minute walk from the 132 bus stop at Washington Street and Stone Place intersection.

**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**

Contact: Contact ZnJpZW5kcyB8IGZlbGxzICEgb3Jn with any questions and/or concerns.

Dogs: This program is not suitable for our furry friends (it's slower-paced and "stop and go"). Please take a look at our calendar for other walks that are good for dogs to join!

Please note: Emails from Eventbrite may end up in your spam folder. Please check your spam folder if you have registered for the waitlist to ensure that you are receiving the email notifications. We also suggest removing Eventbrite from your spam sender list.
