Join us at Creative Maidstone as we get cosy and celebrate the most versatile natural fibre – wool!
Throughout the week, we will be exploring all things wool-related, from spinning and weaving to knitting and needle-felting. There will be live demonstrations, opportunities to ‘have a go’ and some workshops too.
🧶Mon 23 Feb - SPINNING
We’re delighted to welcome two expert spinners as they showcase a variety of different spinning wheels and demonstrate the various techniques for each. Learn about how a raw fleece is processed and carded before being spun, and the different types of yarn that can be produced.
🧶Tue 24 Feb - WEAVING
The focus for today is on weaving. Discover the variety of looms available and the types of materials that can be created on each. There will be demonstrations and a chance to try out a simple weaving using a piece of card.
🧶Wed 25 Feb – LACE MAKING
Today we’ll be joined by the Craft Corner and Tonbridge Lacemakers who will be demonstrating this fascinating and beautiful heritage craft. Come and see bobbin lacemakers in action and learn a bit more about the history of lacemaking.
🧶Thu 26 Feb – KNIT & CROCHET
Needles and hooks at the ready! Come and meet our expert knitters and crocheters, ready to share their passion with you. We’ll have live demonstrations, a beginners crochet workshop where can learn this timeless technique, and an amigurumi workshop where you can learn how to make a simple sphere (booking required as spaces limited).
🧶Fri 27 Feb – FELTING
Today is devoted to needle-felting.
We're excited to be joined by the 'Woolly Felters', all the way from Felty Towers in Maidstone. Roz and Judy will be demonstrating the art of needle-felting alongside a display of their amazing creations.
