Musicians from the Ulster Orchestra are delighted to make their first ever appearance at An Carn, hosted in English and as Gaeilge, with a special appearance by Jack Warnock.
***
The programme draws its inspiration from folk music in all its forms, with music influenced by songs, dances and airs from Ireland and across the world performed by small ensembles from the Orchestra.
The concert will be introduced by Ulster Orchestra double bass player and traditional musician Maitiú Gaffney, in English and as Gaelige.
***
The first half will feature five of the Orchestra’s string players and five of the Orchestra’s wind section, performing a selection of classical pieces by Dvořak, Bartók, Amy Beach and Malcolm Arnold, exploring how composers have used folk tunes and dances to shape their own music. Ulster Orchestra violinist Usman Peguero’s beautiful new arrangement of the Derry Air will also feature.
In the second half, multi-instrumentalist and singer Jack Warnock will be the Ulster Orchestra’s special guest; he’ll perform a set of tunes, with Maitiú joining on flute, and then with the Orchestra’s string players for music from his album Le Solas Faoithine, as well as a special arrangement for Jack and strings by Neil Martin.
