Get ready to make a splash at the Monroe County Prevention & Wellness Coalition's 4th Annual 'Smash The Stigma' Community Water Balloon Fight in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day!
Memorial Wall – Honor. Remember. Break the Silence.
This year, help us personalize the message by sharing a photo of someone whose life has been impacted by overdose.
You may submit a photo:
• In Honor – for someone who has survived an overdose or is living in recovery
• In Remembrance – for someone we’ve lost to overdose
Photos will be displayed at the event to raise awareness, break the silence, and remind our community that every story—and every life—matters.
Special Parade Participation:
Picture this: Firefighters and law enforcement will be driving down the street parade-style, aiming to soak bystanders and participants on the sidewalk. But here's the twist - bystanders and participants are encouraged to soak them back with water balloons and water guns! It's all part of the fun and camaraderie of the event.
Event Details:
Date: August 23rd
Festivities Start: 4:00 PM
Water Balloon Fight Begins: 6:00 PM
Location: Memorial Park, with the fight route along Tellico St, from First United Methodist Church to Memorial Park.
What to Expect:
Before the Fight: Enjoy food trucks, resources, and entertainment in Memorial Park.
Water Balloons: Bring your own pre-filled water balloons. Refill stations with water buckets will be available for water guns.
Safety Guidelines:
To ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone:
1. Act responsibly.
2. Do NOT throw water balloons at police officers, military
personnel, the elderly, or small children UNLESS they are
participating in the event.
3. Water balloon throwing is allowed for all, but please behave
appropriately for your age.
4. Stay on the sidewalks when fire and police apparatus are on the
street.
By following these guidelines, we can all have a fun, safe, and memorable day smashing the stigma!
