The State Democracy Research Initiative invites you to join us for our panel, “Judging in State Appellate Courts” on Thursday, October 30, from 12:00-1:00 pm Central Time. This event will take place in-person in Lubar Commons on the 7th floor of the UW Law School, with the option to attend virtually. Lunch will be provided for this event.
The panel will explore the important and often overlooked role of state intermediate appellate court judges in our legal system. The discussion will include topics such as the application and development of precedent in intermediate courts; the courts' caseload, dockets, and decision-making practices; and how intermediate courts interact with state supreme courts and trial courts.
Our panelists will include Judge Brian Blanchard (Wisconsin Court of Appeals), Judge Elizabeth Bentley (Minnesota Court of Appeals), President Judge Renée Cohn Jubelirer (Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court), and Chief Justice Rebeca Martinez (Texas Court of Appeals). This panel will be moderated by Professor Miriam Seifter (University of Wisconsin Law School).
This event is pending approval for 1 WI CLE credit.
The zoom link will be shared with all registered attendees via email shortly before the event begins.
