In honor of Health Literacy Month, Dr. Alicia Reiser, PPOTD, MS OTR/L, ADHD-RSP, Founder & Director of A Rise Above Occupational Therapy Services will give a talk about concussions.
Concussions are far more than “just a bump on the head.” Join us for an informative and practical discussion on how concussions happen, what warning signs to look for, and why early diagnosis and proper care matter. This presentation will highlight the many people who play a role in concussion management, from families and teachers to coaches and healthcare providers.
We’ll explore treatment options across settings—from hospital care for severe injuries to outpatient rehabilitation for headaches, vision, balance, and thinking challenges. You’ll also learn about important accommodations for returning to school, work, and sports safely.
The program will review the latest research, showing how our understanding of concussions has advanced beyond the outdated idea that recovery always happens in 7–10 days. We’ll talk about the impact of concussions on mental health, social relationships, and long-term wellbeing, and we’ll cover how these injuries can affect people of all ages, from children to older adults.
Whether you’re a parent, athlete, teacher, healthcare professional, or community member, this presentation will give you the tools to better understand, support, and protect the brain—our most valuable thinker.
