🌟 2026 AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class Description 🌟
Start your puppy's training journey off right with our revamped AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Class! This class is designed to help you and your pup build a strong foundation in Relationship, obedience and teamwork.
For all puppies 1 year and under - your puppy does not have to be registered with AKC to join us!
We are excited to introduce a new structure for our 2026 S.T.A.R. Puppy classes:
Week 1: Pet Parent Only Orientation (1/11/2026)
* The first session will be for pet parents only. This allows us to teach all about the crucial elements of training—our marker word, food delivery, and timing—without the distraction of your adorable puppies. We are hoping this will build a great foundation for our human trainers!
Weeks 2-6: Puppies Join the Fun!
* Your puppies will begin class in Week 2, and the class will now run for a total of 6 weeks, with the official S.T.A.R. Puppy Test held during the last class.
You and your pup will learn how to:
* Work together as a team.
* Learn foundation obedience behaviors.
* How to socialize your pup safely.
* Address new puppy challenges like potty training and mouth manners (biting/nipping).
* Discuss appropriate toys to challenge and tire out your puppy.
Class Details
Dates: Classes start Sunday, January 11, 2026, and run through Sunday, February 15, 2026. (6 weeks)
Time: 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM (1 hour each week)
Location: Barrier Islands Center, Machipongo
Class Limit: This class is limited to 8 teams.
Fee: $160
Classes are planned to be held outside. If weather is an issue, we will move inside the education building behind the main museum.
🏆 AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Tittle
This 6-week class structure includes all requirements needed for your puppy to earn its first tittle from AKC! The test will be administered on the last day of class.
