Well everyone, classes are coming to an end and exams will be on us in no time! What better way to break up your study than with a bit of birdwatching? This week we'll be heading out to the wonderful Redden Island to see what we can find - it's one of our best spots for finding interesting birds, so we'll see what we can find. Redden Island consistently has one of our highest bird counts so hopefully we keep getting lucky!
If you've never done any birdwatching before, this event will be perfect as an introduction to the wonderful world of birds. Equally though, if you're a birding extraordinaire there will still be plenty of opportunities to see some interesting species. Either way, please do come along and join us for a wonderful morning!
We'll be meeting at Redden Island at 7am as always (that's not too early for you guys, right? Right?? 😛 ). At Machan's Beach, turn right onto Marshall Street (there's a sign post to Redden Island) and then follow that until it becomes Cinderalla Street. Keep going straight ahead until the end of the road, past the toilet block and to the carpark at the river. We'll be led by our wonderful expert Michael McMaster, so get ready for an excellent morning! Our target species for the morning is the beautiful Black-necked Stork.
Please make sure you bring a hat, water, and sunscreen because it's likely to be a bright and sunny morning. If you've got binoculars, please bring them along as well! There'll still be plenty to see if you don't have any though.
As always if you're feeling unwell please don't come, and while we are watching birds we will be maintaining 1.5m distancing. And yes, we are finally affiliated and everything so all JCU students and staff are covered by JCUSA insurance (finally!).
Hope to see you all there, and if you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to ask! 😃
