About the event

Quantum Computing and the Arts
An examination of ethics, aesthetics, and practice – at the interface of the present and the future in the quantum world.

About this Event

The fascinating link between quantum computing and the arts: How does it promote creative processes? How does it give rise to new forms of expression? And how does it challenge existing practices? Insights into current projects and visionary perspectives at the intersection of technology and art. An examination of ethics, aesthetics, and practice—at the interface of the present and the future in the quantum world.

The speakers:

Roman Lipski

Roman Lipski was born in 1969 in Nowy Dwór Gdański, Poland. In 1989, he moved permanently to Berlin, where he pursued independent studies in painting. In 2004, he became a laureate of the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin, receiving the award from the Association of Polish Artists and Designers. In the mid-2000s, he was discovered by Erich Marx, one of Germany’s most renowned collectors. Thanks to his talent and Marx’s support, Lipski entered the professional art scene and rapidly built a remarkable career.

Emma Sokoll

Emma Sokoll is a quantum physicist, artist and researcher based in Berlin. Born in Bradford, United Kingdom, she moved to Berlin in 2013 to study. After completing a master’s degree in theoretical physics at the Technical University of Berlin, specialising in machine learning applications in quantum mechanical many-body systems, she pursued a second master’s in Design & Computation at the Berlin University of the Arts and TU Berlin.
Emma is a founding member of the interdisciplinary collective Eigensound Lab (established in 2024), where she collaborates with artists and physicists to explore the intersections of quantum technologies, media and the arts. She has over ten years of experience in the field of art–science, as a founding member of the Berlin-based science communication collective Experimental Stage Project (est. 2014) and as co-founder of Parallax Lab (2017–2021), an open platform for exchange and collaboration between scientists and artists.

Eduardo Reck Miranda

Eduardo Reck Miranda is a composer and researcher known for pioneering work at the intersection of music and AI. He is a professor at the University of Plymouth, UK, where he founded the Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR). Miranda's compositions blend traditional instruments with cutting-edge technologies, including brain–computer interfaces and quantum computing. His research explores how computational systems can emulate and augment human creativity.
