In celebration of Library Sign-up Month, the library has announced that if 500 new library cardholders register during September, they will host a special "Soak the Smarty" dunk tank event on Saturday, September 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Centerville Library (111 W. Spring Valley Road).
The unique incentive event will feature library staff members volunteering to sit above dunk tanks, giving community members with library cards three chances each to demonstrate their aim and send the "smarties" into the water. (Taunting encouraged.)
"We're always looking for creative ways to engage with our community and encourage library card sign-ups," said Teri Herbstreit, library spokesperson. "This challenge combines fun with our mission to connect more residents with all the amazing resources and services our library offers."
The promotion is open to anyone in the state of Ohio, as all Ohio residents are eligible to receive a Washington-Centerville Public Library card. New cardholders can easily register through the library's website or visit any library location.
Library cards provide access to a wide range of resources, including books, digital materials, computer and internet access, a wide variety of items through the Library of Things, educational programs, and community events. The Washington-Centerville Public Library serves the community with multiple locations, Creativity Commons, a makerspace, and extensive programming for all ages.
Participants must have a valid library card to participate in the dunk tank activities.
Community members are encouraged to help spread the word about library card sign-ups throughout September to help the library reach its goal of 500 new cardholders and make the special event possible.
