This beginners’ yoga class will help to improve your sleep quality by reducing stress and anxiety, regulating the nervous system to activate the ‘rest and digest’ response and increasing mindfulness.
These physiological and psychological effects help lower stress hormones like cortisol, promote melatonin production - the hormone that regulates sleep - and slow racing thoughts, making it easier to fall asleep and improve overall sleep quality.
Our breathing practice will be Nadi Shodana Pranayama or Alternate Nostril Breathing - an ancient Indian yogic practice to regulate the breath by alternately closing and opening the left and right nostrils.
This breathwork helps to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain, allowing both sides of the brain to relax at the same time.
We will be taking a look at Viparita Karani or ‘Legs Up the Wall’ asana - a passive pose that calms the nervous system and improves sleep quality by promoting relaxation.
This yoga class will help you to address specific sleep issues such as making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep, insomnia, sleep issues associated with aging - like during menopause - and even help with Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS).

All classes are for beginners and take place at Crescent Yoga Studio at St Anne’s Tennis Club FY8 2QH. The yoga studio is fully equipped so you don’t need to bring anything with you, unless you prefer to use your own mat and blanket etc.
Classes are £8 on Thursday evenings 7:15-8:15pm and £10 on Saturday mornings 09:30-11:00am or sometimes 10:00-11:30am.
