Lyons, GA Intro to Mounted Shooting Clinic

Join us in Southeast Georgia for a new shooter beginner mounted shooting clinic from 10am-2pm The goal of the clinic is to help already competent riders (riders who can ride confidently with one hand at a walk/trot/canter) expose their horses to gunfire so that the horse and rider could begin mounted shooting practices and/or compete at the local level. It is important to note horses do develop at different rates and some horses may need more time. The methods used to introduce gunfire to the horses are quite successful but like people, some horses may need more time or may not be good candidates for mounted shooting. The Harris Family has been competing in mounted shooting since 2021 and are excited to share their passion and knowledge of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. Cowboy mounted shooting is a high octane, competitive sport, where the rider and horse must navigate one of many patterns (over 70 current) and shoot at 10 targets. Competitors use two single action .45 revolvers loaded with specially formulated black powder blanks to break balloon targets. Mounted shooting requires skill in both horsemanship and marksmanship. We also have long gun classes (rifle and shotgun) that can challenge you even further. Wranglers, competitors under the age of 12, are not left out of the fun. These riders are introduced to gun safety (with mom or dad) from the ground and how to navigate courses without having to shoot at targets. This clinic is designed to introduce mounted shooting in a safe, fun, laid back atmosphere. Participants will bring their own horse where he or she can safely and gently start exposing them to guns. All the shooting-specific equipment will be provided on site. Cost is $175. There is a 12-person rider limit. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
