Dr. Frederick Chiluba stands out as the father of democracy and industrialization in Zambia. His leadership marked a turning point in the nation’s history, ushering in multiparty politics and encouraging private sector growth that laid the foundation for modern economic participation.
Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, on the other hand, will forever be remembered as the father of independence — the man who led Zambia out of colonial rule and inspired unity through his philosophy of humanism. His vision and courage gave birth to a free nation.
Levy Mwanawasa earned his place in history as the father of the fight against corruption. His integrity, discipline, and commitment to justice brought renewed confidence in governance and the rule of law, setting a moral benchmark for future leaders.
Michael Chilufya Sata, fondly remembered as the voice of the people, devoted his energy to improving the lives of the poor. His tenure was marked by a visible transformation of Zambia’s infrastructure — from roads and hospitals to schools and stadiums — as he sought to rebuild the nation and bring development closer to the people.
Rupiah Banda, though not known for remarkable achievements, was a man of good heart and calm disposition. Unfortunately, his presidency was overshadowed by the influence of individuals around him who were more interested in personal gain than national progress.
Edgar Chagwa Lungu, initially continued with Sata’s developmental agenda, maintaining a focus on infrastructure and public service delivery. However, as time passed, he lost direction by aligning himself with political cadres and opportunists whose actions weakened his leadership and public trust.
As for our seventh president, his story is still being written. The people will have their full verdict in 2026 — when history will decide whether he upheld the hopes of the Zambian people or fell short of their expectations. The clock is ticking...
