Join curators Aaron Lister and Chelsea Nichols exploring Blood Is Thicker, where artist Jason Greig’s darkly luminous monoprints and paintings commune with their gothic ancestors—Goya, Redon, Kollwitz, Doré, Rops, and others—drawn from a private collection of 18th- and 19th-century masterpieces.
Together, these works reveal a rich gothic lineage where printer’s ink flows like blood through art history’s veins—spanning centuries and reaching from Europe’s Old Masters to Aotearoa’s own dark imagination. Within this world, Greig conjures haunted realms where Lemmy from Motörhead meets Edgar Allan Poe, and Milton’s Pandæmonium echoes through post-quake Christchurch.
Curated by Aaron Lister and Chelsea Nichols, this ambitious exhibition is a collaboration between The Dowse Art Museum and City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi.
