We are only beginning to truly discover the rich indigenous knowledge of the oldest civilisation in the world, our First Nations people, and their interconnected way of life.
One part of their interconnection is dark sky constellations. ✨The Dark Emu, or "Celestial Emu", is one of these dark sky constellations visible in our Australian southern skies. 🌌
To better understand how the Celestial Emu story, which contains Indigenous astronomy knowledge passed down for generations🗣️, relates to their interconnected way of life, we welcome you to join us as we learn about this dark sky constellation and what it means to our First Nations people.
The night will include a guided tour and telescope viewing of all the visible wonders the Southern Celestial Hemisphere has to offer this August.✨🔭
Our Public Astronomy Night Events explore a specific topic and encourage interactive discussions on everyday Astronomical events we take for granted.
☕ Complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and soup will be provided throughout the night.
Gold Coast Astronomy offers you the ability to relive your experience with a take-home star chart of the night, a summary of key visible celestial objects, and an opportunity to capture, with your mobile, your very own snaps through one of our telescopes.📷🤳🏼
