Get back to basics using simple tools and exercises for creative expression! Designed to be a playful and non-intimidating approach to art making, this workshop is perfect for artists of all levels. Monday, November 3, 2025 10 AM - 4 PM Franciscan Life Process Center $170 Includes all materials (bring a lunch, snack/beverage) In this workshop you will:
• Craft a set of unique brushes from found materials • Break free of artistic constraints through music-guided exercises in meditative stone pushing, blind contour drawing, ascemic writing and mark making
• Design and construct a one-of-a-kind vessel to hold your mark making tools–a token of inspiration for future creative exploration
Instructors:
Christy DeHoog Johnson BFA, Kendall College of Art & Design | MFA, Cal State Long Beach Christy is an illustrator and abstract painter. Her work is described as “at the same time whimsical and sophisticated”. Christy uses color as a springboard for her process while maintaining a playful approach to lines and shapes. Though formally trained as an illustrator, her work more often explores abstraction. Michelle Krievins Newman BFA, University of Michigan School of Art & Design Michelle is a graphic designer and abstract painter. Her minimalist paintings feature rich colors, surfaces and textures through a complex layering process that incorporates mark making, collage and oil pastels mixed with either encaustic (hot) or cold wax. A $150 deposit or payment in full is required for enrollment in any workshop. Full payment of the workshop is required 45 days before the start date of the workshop.
Registrations made after 45 days require full payment and are non-refundable.
Cancellations must be received in writing and submitted 45 days before the start date of the workshop for a full refund, less deposit and processing fees.
The FLPC does not provide make-up workshops or issue refunds for workshops missed due to illness, emergencies, or other events beyond their control. If the workshop is cancelled by the FLPC payment will be fully refunded including deposit.
Purchasing a workshop ticket is a binding agreement to the above terms and conditions.

Cancellation Policy
A deposit of the first overnight fee is required for a room reservation.
Cancellations must be received in writing and submitted 2 weeks prior to the arrival date for a full refund, less deposit. Cancellations after 2 weeks are non-refundable.
If the reservation is cancelled by the FLPC, because of unforeseen events and/or an emergency closure, the deposit will be fully refunded.
This policy is effective January 1, 2025.
