Since 2010, Sean Brubaker has embarked on a unique visual exploration of Colorado’s often overlooked cemeteries and graveyards, creating powerful and poignant images of over 150 burial grounds.

While cemeteries are commonly viewed as somber and mournful, their work reveals a far more complex and multifaceted reality. These spaces are not just about death, but also about tranquility, beauty, and the celebration of loved ones’ lives, though at times, they evoke deep intensity and sorrow. Through their photography, the artist aims to capture the full range of emotions experienced in these intensely personal places, challenging typical graveyard stereotypes and offering a more nuanced perspective.
