Healing Waters Wilderness Adventures (HWWA) is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on inspiring, empowering, and enriching the lives of individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS, those struggling with substance use disorders, under-resourced youth, and the LGBTQIA+ community through transformative outdoor wilderness experiences. Established in 1996, HWWA offers a diverse range of activities, including rafting, sea kayaking, and winter cabin retreats, all designed to foster a connection with nature, encourage personal growth, and build a supportive community.
To enhance accessibility, our organization provides scholarships and subsidized pricing, ensuring that everyone in need can participate in our programs.
Healing Waters is offering an opportunity for you to become a volunteer whitewater raft guide on the South Fork American River! In exchange for comprehensive training, we request that you volunteer a few weekends during the summer to guide our participants down the river. Whether you’re an adrenaline enthusiast or have a passion for outdoor service, this is an incredible and fulfilling opportunity you won’t want to miss!
The cost of guide training is $425, which includes classroom materials, five weekends of on-river training, and meals (scholarships and payment plans are available). Additionally, Swift Water Rescue training is offered separately for $100 (the actual price is subsidized by DBW & HWWA) and is conducted by Sierra Rescue. Scholarships available upon request.
