As part of their surf film festival EndThis Summer, 7th House is pleased to welcome non-profit screening collective Hollywood Entertainment for the day's finale, a screening of the sea-soaked outsider oddyssey and soon-to-be-cult-classic SURFER: TEEN CONFRONTS FEAR, featuring an in-person discussion with multi-hyphenate cinematic auteur, and USC Physics Professor, Douglas Burke!
An existential spiritual epic, an intimate family portrait, a conspiracy thriller, and so much more—there has never been a movie or a mystical experience like SURFER: TEEN CONFRONTS FEAR. Equally at home in the slow cinema tradition of Béla Tarr and the classic surf rhythms of Big Wednesday, we invite you to dip into the profound waves of this journey.
This film has never been released to home video or available to rent/stream so don’t miss this rare opportunity to see it as it was meant to be seen — on the big screen in the presence of its writer/director/composer/star ("Father of Surfer").
FILMMAKER'S SYNOPSIS
“Surfing since as young as he can remember, at the age of 13, Sage is crippled by fear after suffering a wipeout on a huge wave. The wave slammed him to the bottom and held him pinned there without air until he nearly died. With his whole life still ahead of him yet now paralyzed by fear, Sage no longer surfs the waves. But unable to ignore the mystical and powerful pull of the ocean, he fishes in the surf, and finds more than he bargained for. This is the story of a teenager who confronts fear.”
