Cyanotypes are a photographic process invented in 1842 by astronomer Sir John Hirschell. Unlike traditional silver-based photography, this alternative method produces beautiful Prussian Blue monochrome images you can expose in sunlight and develop in water. 

In this workshop you’ll learn how to make one of a kind prints from your digital negatives. We’ll provide you some sample art from my archive to remix, or you can get creative and make a cameraless picture from different materials - by placing items such as plants, glass, toys, or fabric directly on the paper. 

If you wish to print one of your own photos, you’ll need to create a black and white negative image of it and print on transparency film.  You will learn how to properly expose your picture on cyanotype paper in a UV light box or in daylight. We’ll show you how to adjust your contrast and exposure time to get high quality images, whether you’re using a laser printer or inkjet printer to output your photos.

Desktop users can use software such as Photoshop or free web based tools such as photopea.com.
