Compton Fest Presents: The #AllPlayersWelcome Spades & Dominoes Tournament

is a monthly game night for anyone looking for a fun space to kick it and bond over classic Black family games such as Bid Whist, Uno, Tunk/Tonk, Dominoes, and, of course, Spades—and if you need lessons, don’t worry, we got you!

On August 23, we will make our first appearance at , taking place at Charles R. Drew University, celebrating joy, fellowships, and culture through the art of play. Whether you’re a seasoned vet or just here for the vibes, this ALL AGES, FREE TO PLAY experience will be for those who love our culturally-rich games.

Alongside our friends, we invite you to enjoy a day of laughter and legacy!

🏆 Tournament play kicks off for both Spades and Dominoes with sign-ups here on Eventbrite and on site with community prizes, bragging rights, and fellowship awaiting you.

🃏 Not ready to compete? No problem. We’ve got open play tables, learn-to-play stations (Spades Academy), and a welcoming space for everyone from first-timers to long-time players.

🎨 New this year: we’re hosting an exceptional preservation and archivist art exhibition in collaboration with Evrythng Creativ, spotlighting the cultural memory and creative legacy of play, family, and leisure.

Open Play: 12 PM - 5 PM

Spades Academy: 2 PM - 5 PM

Spades + Dominoes Tournament Play: 1 PM - 4 PM

Registration: Tournament players must sign up to play and be on-site by 12:30 PM promptly. If you don't have a partner, we’ll match you with someone to play with.

Open Play: All players are welcome to enjoy the available games, but this is not for registering for tournaments.

Skill Level: All levels of players are welcome.

Info: This is the breakdown of details for the free-to-play tournament happening at this year’s Compton Fest. For registrants participating, we also will match you with a partner if you do not have one.

Info: This is a 30-minute, double-elimination match between Spades players. The house rules are: Big Joker, Lil Joker, Deuce of Diamonds, Deuce of Spades, Ace of Spades. There are NO SANDBAGS. If a team gets set or wins a Boston, the match is to be played until the end of the 30-minute time limit. At the end of the 30-minute match, the WINNER stays at their respective table, while the NON-WINNER moves to the following corresponding table (e.g., Table 1 to Table 2). At the end of the 1-hour round, the teams with the HIGHEST CUMULATIVE POINT TOTAL move on to the next round.

At the end of the 45-minute match, the WINNING TEAM with the HIGHEST CUMULATIVE POINTS wins the match, becoming our first champion of The #AllPlayersWelcome Spades Tournament.
