Join LAMAG on Friday, August 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. for a durational performance by Carmen Argote presented in conjunction with the COLA 2025 – Design and Visual Artist Exhibition.
Rooted in her ongoing walking practice, this performance begins with Argote’s journey on foot from her home in Boyle Heights to Barnsdall Art Park—a meditative act that maps the intimate relationship between the body and the city. Her walk and arrival to Barnsdall Art Park is both personal and political, exploring how space, mobility, and access are experienced unevenly across Los Angeles.
In this performance, Argote engages with the layered conditions of East Hollywood, where the housing and homelessness crisis unfolds visibly along the route she traverses. Through walking and eventually sleeping in the park, Argote offers a reflection on shelter, precarity, and belonging—posing questions about who gets to rest, who is displaced, and how artists can reckon with place through presence.
Visitors are invited to witness her arrival and join in a shared moment of contemplation and quiet encounter.
Please note: This program takes place during Barnsdall Art Park Foundation’s Friday Wine Night, which may make on-site parking limited. We encourage ride-sharing or street parking.
