Walk in the Woods: Tomorrow's Trees

Join Virginia expert forester, Jim McGlone, to discover the hidden wonders of our trees, and the next generation of trees within their seeds, in the Potomac basin.

The Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin and Potomac Conservancy are your hosts for this fun and informative hike. We will learn about how communities around the region are coming together to save our forests by simply collecting the seeds that drop all around us in the fall, like acorns, through the Tomorrow's Trees program. Volunteers in the program hand off their collected seeds to state forestry department staff to be propagated and planted. Together, we will learn about this important work to grow tomorrow's trees. The Tomorrow's Trees coordinator will provide seed collection bags if you'd like to gather some seeds on your own time.

Expect to walk about 1 mile on even but unpaved terrain. Please bring your own water bottle.

Please register in case of delays or rescheduling due to bad weather. If you find you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration to free space for another participant.

While the walk is free of cost, please plan to pay the $10 per vehicle admission fee or show your annual pass at the entrance gate to Mason Neck State Park.
