Calling all prairie, goat, and fire fans!
How does your community care for its prairies? Join The Watershed Center, City of Longmont, and CSU researchers for an evening exploring grassland ecosystems near Longmont, CO.
We'll gather at Jim Hamm Nature Area on August 19, 2025 at 5:30 PM (Mountain Time), then shuttle in vans to two nearby destinations before returning you to your vehicles at 7:30pm. Along the way, we’ll hear from City of Longmont staff and local researchers about the work they’re doing to protect open spaces and restore native ecosystems. Learn how prescribed fire, targeted herbicide use, and goat grazing are helping bring these landscapes back to life.
See the goats in action, ask questions, and get inspired! Light snacks will be provided, but please come prepared with a water bottle and sturdy, closed-toe shoes - walking portions of the tour are short, but often over uneven ground.
We're looking forward to gathering with grassland enthusiasts, and hope you'll join us!
