This November we are excited to present an intimate listening session the 1986 album, ‘The Queen is Dead’ by The Smiths. An album perfect for this colder weather & heavier emotions as seasons change and we move closer to the end of another year.
‘The Queen Is Dead’ was recorded between the summer of 1985 and early 1986, The band consisting of Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce. Much of the material was written by Marr, with Morrissey adding lyrics that combined biting social commentary, black humor, and personal melancholy.
Recording took place mainly at RAK Studios in London and Jacobs Studios in Farnham, Surrey. With Marr layering guitars to create shimmering, orchestral textures, while Rourke’s basslines and Joyce’s drumming provided a tight, melodic foundation. We will be listening to the album front to back on our Hi-Fi Sound System at the peak of our evening.
This will be accompanied by a live acoustic set by Jose Maldonado & David Collette of The Sweet and Tender Hooligans. They will be covering some songs off the album along with other selections from The Smiths discography following the album.
As well, vinyl-DJ sets conducted by Good Luck Vinyl Club friends & family. We will be playing the classics and unreleased singles/rare Smiths pressings all-night. This album means so much to our family and we hope it means alot of you as well. More suprises in store, see you soon!
Each Ticket Includes A Cocktail Provided by The Social List.
