Designing Inclusive and Interdisciplinary curricula through Shared Modules

The role of shared modules—those studied by students across different degree programmes—offers both a challenge and an opportunity. These interdisciplinary spaces are often overlooked in conversations about inclusivity and curriculum design, yet they hold significant potential for enhancing student experience.

Drawing on staff and student perspectives from a multi-phase study including literature review, surveys, and focus groups, the project developed a practical toolkit to support academic staff in designing and delivering inclusive shared modules.

Participants will engage with this new toolkit and explore how to critically reflect on existing modules, navigate the practicalities of shared teaching spaces, and maximise the interdisciplinary learning opportunities they offer. This includes understanding what common challenges staff and student face when involved in shared modules.

This free workshop shares findings from a collaborative research project led by the University of Greenwich in partnership with Royal Holloway and the University of Lincoln funded by the QAA.
