Bridging Memory and CommunityA Gathering for Remembrance, Healing, and the Future of Belonging

The nonprofit DNACambodia will launch the Reconnecting Cambodia Project with a special commemorative event marking 50 years since the fall of Phnom Penh, a devastating chapter in Cambodia's history. This gathering invites Londoners to come together in reflection and collective healing. Chris Moon MBE, a former British Army officer who narrowly escaped execution by the Khmer Rouge, will serve as the event's Master of Ceremonies, lending his powerful first hand perspective to the proceedings. Through dialogue and shared ritual, the event will bridge memory and community, honouring those lost, amplifying voices of resilience within the local community, and celebrating the enduring contributions of Cambodian Londoners and those touched by Cambodia's history to the city's cultural and civic life.

In partnership with the Frontline Club, the program will include:

• A Short Screening Adaptation of Prue Leith: Journey With My Daughter: Introducing the origin story of Reconnecting Cambodia and its mission, followed by an interview with Founder, Li-Da Kruger, by Restaurateur and Cultural Curator, Y Sok. 

• The Future of Belonging Panel Discussion: We are honoured to welcome a dynamic panel of speakers: Cambodian Genocide Survivor and Author, Var Ashe Houston; Journalist, Writer, and Foreign Correspondent, Jon Swain; Actor, Dancer and Activist, Leon Ung; Associate Professor at University College London, Dr. Danielle Tran; Policy Analyst and Performing Artist, Amara Goel (Moderator).
• Interactive Art: In collaboration with local artist Dayanny So, guests will also be invited to participate in collective tribute, Healing Childhood Trauma.

It invites Londoners to engage with an often-overlooked chapter of global history while celebrating the contributions of Cambodian Londoners to the city’s rich cultural fabric.
