Berkhamsted Circular: follow the Grand Union Canal, cross fields to Ashley Green for lunch, and return through Hockeridge Wood—Chiltern views and a relaxed, social vibe.

Grand Union Canal towpath and locks.
Ashley Green village green.
Hockeridge & Pancake Woods (towering conifers, redwoods).
Optional peek at Berkhamsted Castle by the station (time-permitting).

Meeting Time: London Euston — 09:00 (main concourse by the departure boards)
Suggested Train: 09:24 West Midlands Railway (to Tring) → arrive Berkhamsted 09:55 (platform TBC)
Starting Point & Finishing: Berkhamsted Station 10:05 (start walking)
Total Distance: 15.3 km | Elevation Gain: ≈240 m
Walk Duration: 4.5–5 h (steady social pace + photo stops)
Lunch: The Golden Eagle (Ashley Green) or picnic
Bring: boots, waterproofs, headtorch, warm layers, water & snacks
Tickets: Buy a return to Berkhamsted. Always check live times on the day.

Route plan — quick take
We’re heading out for a full day in the countryside: fresh air, good vibes, and plenty of photo moments. We’ll keep a steady pace with a picnic stop halfway, so bring something you’ll enjoy eating outdoors.

Useful info
Group train tickets: we travel together there and back from the same station.
Going solo: if you plan to return separately or get off elsewhere, please buy your own individual ticket in advance.

What to bring
Comfortable clothing and walking footwear; hiking boots if you have them.
Waterproof jacket and trousers recommended; waterproof shoes if possible.
Water (at least 1 litre, ideally 2).
Lunch for the picnic stop.
Some money for the pub afterwards (optional).
Pets
Dogs are welcome, on lead at all times.
