About the event

The Night Peshtigo Died , Local Author Program
The West Point Area Historical Society invites you to join us for our 2026 Spring Program , Tuesday night March 10. Our speaker will be Lodi resident Michele Chizek , editor of a new historic fiction novel based on real life events that happened around Peshtigo WI . Michele's father Jim Chizek who was a Wisconsin Conservationist Warden researched and wrote about the lives and events of the settlers before , during and after the October 1871 inferno. This deadly wildfire wiped out the surrounding logging communities and old growth "virgin" lumber forests in NE Wisconsin and the town of Peshtigo. Program begins at 7pm at the West Point Town Hall. Highway 188 and Rausch Rd. Lodi.
