As keystone species, wolves are extremely important for ecosystems. After missing for decades due to human persecution, wolves are coming back into our landscapes, including in Skane. This natural return brings challenges and fears, as people are re-learning to share the space with this animal. However, coexistence is possible. Compared to a hundred years ago, there have been huge developlments in ethical and science-based coexistence methods, with a lot of experience been built up. In this lecture you will hear some basic facts about the wolf, which factors influence its acceptance, best practices for coexistence and safety considerations. The lecture will use the example of Italy as a case study, that, with around 4000 wolves, it is the country with the highest density of wolves in Europe. A short movie will also be screened and there will be time for questions.
Giulia Testa is an Italian conservationist based in Skane. She graduated in environmental law, with a specialization in large predators law. Now she has been working for 3 years in the field of predators coexistence across Europe.
