Herkimer Home Commemoration

Join us this Sunday, August 17th for our annual commemoration ceremony at Herkimer Home. The event is free to the public and will begin at 1pm.

This year’s commemoration will commence with the march of the militia who will stand guard over our fallen General’s graveside, followed by a ceremonial wreath laying by the DAR, other local organizations, and descendent groups.

Site updates and a short talk, the playing of taps and, of course, our 21 gun musket and artillery salute will accompany the program. After, be sure to stop inside the mansion which will be dressed in mourning and see the historic coffin in viewing within the General’s office. Here you can learn about the many customs associated with death, mourning, and burials in the 18th century.

Additional living history programs including our militia, surgery, and others will be held throughout the day from 10am-5pm.
