**Philosophy Slam: Exploring Tibetan Buddhism**

WEEK 1 - August 12th at 2pm

Week 1 of Philosophy Slam! In our first week, we delve into the profound and intricate teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. All are warmly invited to join us in this exploration, as we not only learn about the rich history and practices of Tibetan Buddhism but also engage in thoughtful discussions that challenge our perspectives and deepen our understanding.

Tibetan Buddhism offers a unique blend of ancient Buddhist teachings and the indigenous Bon traditions of Tibet. At its core, it emphasizes the interdependence of all beings and the pursuit of enlightenment—not just for oneself but for the benefit of all sentient beings. This is encapsulated in the concept of *Bodhicitta*, the altruistic intention to attain enlightenment in order to help others.

Throughout our session, we will touch on key elements such as:

1. **Meditation Practices**: We will explore various forms of meditation used in Tibetan Buddhism, including mindfulness (shamatha) and insight (vipashyana), as well as visualization techniques that play a significant role in spiritual development.

2. **The Role of Compassion**: Compassion is at the heart of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. We’ll discuss how cultivating compassion can transform our relationships and contribute to a harmonious society.

3. **Understanding Emptiness**: One of the more challenging concepts in Tibetan Buddhism is *śūnyatā*, or emptiness. Together, we will contemplate what emptiness means and how it shapes our perception of reality.

4. **Rituals and Symbolism**: Tibetan Buddhism is rich in rituals and symbols, such as mandalas and mantras. We will examine their meanings and purposes, discussing how these practices serve to connect practitioners to the teachings.

5. **The Path of the Bodhisattva**: We’ll engage in a discussion about the Bodhisattva ideal and how its principles can be integrated into our daily lives, fostering a sense of purpose and connection to the world around us.

As we embark on this journey together, I encourage each of you to approach our discussions with an open mind and a curious heart. Tibetan Buddhism invites us not only to intellectualise its teachings but to embody them in our actions and interactions.

I look forward to sharing this enlightening experience with all of you, as we connect over the timeless wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism and its relevance in addressing the complexities of modern life. Let's come together in this space of inquiry and reflection, where every voice is valued, and every thought contributes to a greater understanding.

See you all there! 🙏
