Mix your own body butters, candles and infused waters in this hands-on workshop exploring Regency still-room crafts.
In this gentle and immersive workshop, we invite you to step into the world of Jane Austen — not the ballroom, but the stillroom: the quiet heart of the home, where fragrant herbs and garden blooms were transformed into remedies, comforts, and delights.
Together we shall explore the botanical traditions of the Regency era, drawing upon the herbs and flowers that graced cottage gardens and manor estates alike. You will craft a trio of elegant preparations to take home:
– a silky herbal body butter, scented with the delicate notes of rose, lavender, or geranium;
– a softly glowing beeswax candle, enriched with the aromas that once perfumed parlours and dressing tables;
– and a refreshing infused botanical water, reminiscent of the tonics and floral waters used for complexion, calm, and cordial conversation.
Amid the crafting, you’ll discover stories of Regency herbal wisdom — from rosemary for remembrance to the soothing virtues of chamomile — and how such preparations offered both pleasure and practicality in the daily lives of Austen’s contemporaries.
