MusicDance Portugal is a gathering of artists in a workshop-performance format. It is created and directed by Lisbon based dancer/text artist Nicolle Vieira in collaboration with Amsterdam based dancer Manuela Lucia Tessi. This project is part of a larger network of similar music and dance projects taking part in Berlin and Cape Town. The project explores dialogues that weave together music-dance-text through and intensive process facilitated by guest artists. The project brings together people interested in diving eagerly and adventurously into interdisciplinary listening and collaborative performance making. In the intensive week of workshops, participants are guided by the facilitating artists to practice interdisciplinary creation and expand their composition tools, in real time. The creative process is aimed at sharpening the ability of the artists to make intuitive choices in the face of unpredictability, getting deeper in the process of listening across different artistic media, and using creativity and consciousness to release tensions and creative blockages that might occur through the process, in a state of art - and freedom - that promotes the engagement of the senses.
The workshops will culminate in a public sharing at the end of the process, which consists of a program of short compositions in different constellations (grouping) of artists. All compositions are created in the moment, based on choices of movement, sound, text and presence in real time. The audience is invited to witness the creation of new collaborations and unique expressions.
This project is supported by c.e.m. (center-in-movement), and seeks to bring together people from the most diverse backgrounds in a week of meeting and sharing.

Facilitating Artists:
MANUELA TESSI (Italy/Netherland): @manuelaluciatessi
Independent dance artist from Italy, based in the Netherlands for more than 25 years where she works as a performer and teacher, regularly collaborating with different musicians and composers. Manuela's specialty is the investigation of movement, and composition as it relates to music. She has taught and presented work in Amsterdam, Berlin, Cape Town, Milano, Lecce, Madrid, Prague, Vancouver. For many years she studied, and is still working with Katie Duck, who is one of her biggest creative influences.
NICOLLE VIEIRA (Brazil/Portugal):
Independent brazilian artist, and psychologist, actually based in Portugal, where she does a PhD in Artistic Studies at NOVA university of Lisbon. Nicolle develops an investigation about freedom, choices and meaning in compositions based on improvisations. She participated in different projects in many countries as Brazil, France, Belgium, Netherlands, China, Cyprus, and collaborates with Manuela since 2016.
VINTANI NAFASSI (Moçambique): @vintaninafas
Professional percussionist, composers and dancer from Mozambique, his main focus is traditional African music and dance. He has taught music and dance as well as performed in Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Brazil, China and Reunion Island. He was a professional dancer and musician for 10 years at the Companhia Nacional de Dança. He finished his master at University of Cape Town.

MusicDance Portugal é uma residência artística idealizada pela artista Manuela Tessi, que nasceu em Amsterdão, realizou algumas edições em berlim e já há 6 anos acontece anualmente na Cidade do cabo. A residência explora diálogos tecidos entre música-dança-texto através de oficinas-performances de ponta, as quais são facilitadas por artistas convidados. O período de trabalho consiste em reunir pessoas interessadas em mergulhar nessa aventura para experimentar uma semana intensiva de oficinas em que os participantes são orientados pelos artistas facilitadores a praticar ferramentas de criação e composição interdisciplinar, em tempo real. Com intuito de desenvolver a habilidade de fazer escolhas intuitivas diante das imprevisibilidades e encontrar soluções para as tensões criadas de forma criativa e consciente, em um estado de arte - e de liberdade - que propicia a evolução dos sentidos. As oficinas culminarão em uma partilha pública ao final do processo, o que consiste em um programa de composições curtas em diferentes constelações (agrupamento). Todas as composições são criadas no momento, baseadas em escolhas de movimento, som, texto e presença em tempo real, em que o público é convidado a testemunhar a criação de novas colaborações e expressões únicas.
Este projeto é financiado pelo instituto Goethe, apoiado pelo c.e.m. (centro-em-movimento), e busca reunir pessoas dos mais diversos backgrounds em uma semana de encontros e partilhas.

Artista de dança independente italiana, radicada na Holanda há mais de 20 anos onde trabalha como performer e professora, colaborando regularmente com diversos músicos e compositores. A especialidade de Manuela é a investigação do movimento e da composição no que se refere à música. Lecionou e apresentou trabalhos em Amsterdã, Berlim, Cidade do Cabo, Madrid, Praga, Varsóvia, Roma, Seul. Ela estudou por muitos anos e ainda trabalha com Katie Duck, que é uma de suas maiores influências criativas.

Artista brasileira independente e psicóloga, atualmente radicada em Portugal, onde faz doutoramento em Estudos Artísticos na Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Nicolle desenvolve uma investigação sobre liberdade, escolhas e significados em composições baseadas em improvisações. Participou de diversos projetos em diversos países como Brasil, França, Bélgica, Holanda, China, Chipre, e colabora com Manuela desde 2016.

Percussionista profissional, compositor e dançarino moçambicano, tem como foco principal a música e dança tradicional africana. Ele ensinou música e dança, bem como se apresentou no Zimbábue, Suazilândia, Brasil, China e Ilha da Reunião. Foi bailarino e músico profissional durante 10 anos na Companhia Nacional de Dança. Ele terminou seu mestrado na Universidade da Cidade do Cabo.
