The children are guided by three mysterious celestial beings--Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which—on an extraordinary journey across space and time to rescue Meg's physicist father, Dr. Murry, who vanished while working on a concept called the tesseract (a method of "folding" space-time). Their quest takes them to distant planets where they must confront the ominous, overwhelming cosmic evil known as The Black Thing and its powerful, disembodied brain, IT, which has consumed a planet called Camazotz. The play is a coming-of-age story that emphasizes the importance of love, individuality, and courage as the ultimate weapons against conformity and darkness.
