The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is proud to host its inaugural Single Reed Day at the new Westbrook Music Building in the Glenn Korff School of Music. This exciting and free event is open to clarinet and saxophone players from middle school through college, as well as music educators interested in exploring the performance and pedagogy of single reed instruments. Co-hosted by Dr. Diane Barger (clarinet) and Dr. Ora Paul Haar (saxophone), the day will feature guest artists Dr. Deborah Bish (Florida State University) and the Nebraska Saxophone Project Quartet. Participants will engage in instrument-specific sessions, including All-State audition preparation (classical and jazz), masterclasses, and performance opportunities. Whether attending as a performer or observer, all attendees will enjoy hands-on experiences and a full day of learning, collaboration, and inspiration.
What to Expect:
• Masterclasses, clinics, and pedagogy sessions
• Clarinet/Saxophone All-State audition preparation (including jazz saxophone etudes)
• Opportunity to perform in a masterclass or final recital (by application)
• Hands-on experience for all participants — bring your instrument and be ready to play and grow!
• Vendors! Stop by and try out instruments and gear!
👉 Masterclass and recital spots are limited – first come, first served. Be sure to complete the appropriate section of the application to participate.
