During the day you will make 4 stained glass decorations from a choice of 6. Everyone will make a star and can then choose from a Christmas tree / snowy house / present / robin/ festive sprout. All the glass will be pre-cut ready to assemble.
The session will begin with an introduction to the Tiffany Stained Glass method using copper foil and leaded solder.
You will learn how to wrap each individual piece of glass in copper foil and practise soldering before joining pieces of glass together. Once confident in getting a good solder flow we will start to make the star.
You will be shown how to pin the pieces together so that they stay in place and the solder before adding a hanging hook ready to hang with a ribbon and see light coming through your first creation. You will also be able to add festive charms to personalise your creations.
You will then have to decide if you want to leave the solder silver or add a chemical patina to turn the solder black or copper before giving it a wash and a polish to make the glass sparkle!
In the remaining time you will choose another 3 decorations to make. The robin, tree and sprout have set colours.
You will be able to choose or request colours for the star, present and snowy house. Please let the studio know if you would like specific colours cut when booking.
There will be tea, coffee and biscuits available during breaks in the workshop and we aim to stop half way for half an hour for lunch. Please bring your own snack or treat yourself at the deli next door.
Please wear closed-toe shoes.
Aprons will be provided to protect your clothes
Safety glasses and gloves will be provided for handling leaded soldering
Gloves will be provided for adding patina to change the colour of the solder
Please avoid eating or drinking at the work table
