History Alive! featuring Shoemaker Matt Schlicksup

See a colonial shoemaker use historical tools, materials, and techniques to repair shoes that would have been worn by soldiers and camp followers at Fort Ligonier.

Don’t miss seeing Fort Ligonier’s world-renowned shoe collection discovered onsite during archaeological digs in the early 1960s. Learn how these 18th century shoe parts help historian shoemakers like Matt rediscover how 18th century shoes were made and repaired.

History Alive! at Fort Ligonier is an engaging experience for visitors to learn more about the daily life of a frontier military outpost in North America during the 18th century. Through daily programming depicting typical activities of a military site such as soldiering, manual labor, tailoring, laundry, and cooking, and special weekend demonstrations from 18th century artisans, History Alive! portrays the people who fought and lived at Fort Ligonier during the Forbes Campaign of 1758.
